This newborn lamb with a creepy human-like face has taken the internet by storm.
The story begins in the village of Chirka in southwestern Russia, near the Caspian Sea, when farmer Blasius Lavrentiev went to check up on his pregnant sheep. Following a harsh winter, he was looking forward to sell the lambs. But Nature had other plans.
When I went down to see how it was going I nearly died from shock when I saw what looked like the hairy face of an old man staring up at me. Her parents are both normal looking sheep so I have no idea how she ended up looking like this,” the 45-year-old farmer said.
Dorofei Gavrilov, the local veterinarian who examined the disfigured lamb said the farmer had given the sheep too much vitamin A, which causes birth defects.
Not all villagers from Chirka are content with this explanation. Some believe dark forces are to blame for the birth of this unfortunate lamb and consider it a bad omen.
Harbinger of doom or not, the lamb was saved from the slaughterhouse by its old man face. It quickly became famous in the village and Lavrentiev got an offer from a local circus owner who’s willing to pay ten times more than the butchery.
This lamb received a far better reception than the one born in Nigeria in 2012, when outraged locals almost caused a riot on the grounds that the lamb had been a product of witchcraft.
Last year, a similar case in Argentina almost caused the deformed goat’s owners to be banished from their village following accusations of bestiality. They posted images of the mutant goat to raise awareness about the impact of excessive pesticide use in their area but only managed to incur the wrath of misinformed locals.
